I Quit Corporate to Pursue My Calling

This week marks the one year anniversary of leaving my corporate career—twenty years earlier than I had originally planned.

I had thought I would continue working in my career path until a typical retirement age—but then God put a call on my heart for something else.

Early in 2023, I started doing some financial coaching on the side, helping other busy professionals to get a working system in place for their finances that gave them clarity and control of their money. I was overwhelmed with the positive impact this had on the lives of those I worked with. It wasn’t just a financial impact…their daily stress was reduced and they felt like they had more control over their lives. I knew I couldn’t ignore the calling to dedicate more of my time to this worthwhile mission. So, I began putting together an exit plan for my job, and, in November 2023, I said goodbye to the career that I’d built over the last two decades.

I Felt Excited for the Road Ahead

During my last week of work, I experienced a few days of melancholy and doubt. But, those feelings soon passed as I embraced the fact that this change wasn’t just about leaving my job—it was about taking control of my life.

I’ve had to adjust and learn new things, like running my own business and navigating the complexities of a new industry, but I’ve never been more energized. Finding that many of my clients are looking for support in navigating their own transitions, I’ve adjusted my approach to include a strong life design focus and further leveraged my project management background to help clients get organized and succeed. It’s been a thoughtful evolution, always with the goal of making the greatest impact for my clients while staying true to my calling.

A Year Later, I Haven’t Looked Back.

Reflecting on the past year, I can confidently say I made the right choice for my life. I was stuck on a path that no longer fulfilled me. Although I was moving forward, my days were filled with work that didn’t align with how I wanted to spend my time or my aspirations for contributing to the world.

Now, I embrace my purpose every day and have structured my business to support the life I want. While I stay busy, I am intentional about dedicating time to what really matters to me, both within and outside of my work. I’ve given myself the flexibility to pivot and adapt as needed.

It’s never too early or too late to create the life you want.

My story paints is just one example that we have the power to create the life we want—and I hope that it might encourage others.

Your goals and challenges may look different from mine, but the steps to achieve your best life are largely the same. As my goal this year is to reach more people. From time to time, I share resources, insights, and tools on this site to help you design your best life. I mostly talk about life design and financial empowerment. My hope is that you will begin to see money as a tool— not a goal. I’m rooting for you!
